The text of most recent dream reports from participants in the Demographic Survey 2010 and other sources. The exact question for the Demographic Survey 2010: Please describe your most recent dream, either from last night or within the last week, in as much detail as possible. The response is limited to 3000 characters. Wow. I remember them clearly up to an hour after waking, but if I don't take the time to put the experience to memory, the details go away. What is left is both the general experiences (topics) and the fact that I DID experience things in great detail, in color and including being able to read texts that my mind must have generated in the same way as the other details. I don't remember the texts anymore, but they often made sense. Further, the sensation of the details have INCREASED over the years, including the length and complexity of texts. As I write, of course, one dream does come back: My mom passed away last year 2009 in June. It was not an easy parting for me. This dream was her appearing face front to me, kinda in a vignette view, and I remember physically turning away from her and then regretting it. This was not connected to any exact waking experience, but it probably represents them in aggregate, you know? Subsequently, I did have a "sequel" dream where we talked and I don't remember what about. I am still very unhappy almost one year out about her passing. I still yell and scream, kick the floor and come close to... welll... but I am OK, hehe. All I need is an artifact, a smell, a bit of music or stuff that reminds and I get very sad quickly -- but come back just as quickly. The dreams may be more numerous than the two or three I remember. :(

The text of earliest remembered dream reports from participants in the Demographic Survey 2010 and other sources. Exact question: Please describe the first dream you remember from childhood in as much detail as you can. Response is limited to 3000 characters. Haha, I do remember one. Some kind of monster. A kind of accordion monster that might have lurked beneath the bed. And the phrase: "pick-a-penny, pick-a-penny, etc." being repeated as a chant. Now, I haven't had it since early grade school. But because it was repeating, I remember it. Dunno what it was about, might have been associated with my 2-year younger sister who was sick and died at a young age, but maybe not. Those were nasty times, not just her but a lot of family funerals of the older folks. Now, such dreams as flying over the backyards (slow altitude gain always it seemed!) and the running through "jello like air" seem to be later than this one.
A follow-up question for participants in the Demographic Survey 2010 who answered the question about earliest remembered dreams: Is it a recurrent dream? No
The text of worst nightmare reports from participants in the Demographic Survey 2010 and other sources. Exact question: Please describe the worst nightmare you can remember, from any period of your life, in as much detail as you can. Response is limited to 3000 characters. Turning physically away from that vignette of mom in a very recent dream. In effect, as this is churning up from memory, the sense is that she may have wanted to talk or say something, but I turned too fast to listen, and the shame (both in the dream and immediately after waking) was not pleasant, let me tell you. I think, btw, this dream was 4-6 months after she passed away. Ugh! Thank gosh I had (generated) the sequel dream where I think I was able to patch up the dream better.
