The text of most recent dream reports from participants in the Demographic Survey 2010 and other sources. The exact question for the Demographic Survey 2010: Please describe your most recent dream, either from last night or within the last week, in as much detail as possible. The response is limited to 3000 characters. My father (who died in 1998 when I was 43)was at my house (which is currently being remodeled). My dad offered to help with one of our construction projects and he showed us a tip on how to complete something using wood glue(much like the advice given on HGTV). I was thrilled to learn the trick and surprised that my dad knew so much information about the kinds of projects we were doing at home. Overall it was a pleasant dream, just as though my dad had dropped by to visit and while here helped out. It was not as though he saved the day, and there was no surprise or gratefulness associated with his visit, it was just as though coming to our house in rural Georgia from California, or Heaven, were a regular event. Quite pleasant. (...Now if I could only remember the construction short-cut he taught!)

The text of earliest remembered dream reports from participants in the Demographic Survey 2010 and other sources. Exact question: Please describe the first dream you remember from childhood in as much detail as you can. Response is limited to 3000 characters. Christmas time 1957, age 5, visiting my grandparent's two story colonial house in Southern California. My one month old baby brother was given a sock monkey for Christmas and as I slept in one of the front bedrooms I saw the ugly sock monkey's face filling the window next to my bed. I ran to the next bedroom and the gigantic sock monkey's horrid face followed me to each set of windows including into the second bedroom where the dream ended in an unresolved fear. I don't recall being awakened and comforted, although I am sure I was. My brother's sock monkey pretty much disappeared and did not make the cut of special toys to keep into later childhood. Needless to say, my son was never allowed to have a sock monkey, and, yes, I am accustomed to being teased in toy stores by family members who like to pick up those ugly creatures and see if they can scare me. They can't.

The text of worst nightmare reports from participants in the Demographic Survey 2010 and other sources. Exact question: Please describe the worst nightmare you can remember, from any period of your life, in as much detail as you can. Response is limited to 3000 characters. Recurrent nightmare is to be chased, and when I reach a telephone I cannot dial correctly. The dream has manifest itself into pretty much every scenario familiar to my life from childhood being chased through home built tunnels to keep the Russians from enslaving my neighborhood, friends, family and way of life, to bad guys and strangers in my teens chasing my friends and me at the beach and shopping malls. In the former I was always trying to get to the old black dial telephone next to my mother's bed, and in the former I was always in search of a telephone booth. The recurrent nightmare was always so difficult to bear because when/if I finally got to the telephone it was very difficult to dial correctly. I forced myself to stop that dream when 911 came about; I saw that event as an opportunity to block further crazy dreams and it has worked well for me.
