The text of most recent dream reports from participants in the Demographic Survey 2010 and other sources. The exact question for the Demographic Survey 2010: Please describe your most recent dream, either from last night or within the last week, in as much detail as possible. The response is limited to 3000 characters. I was in a forest or other natural setting with a sketchbook and paint trying to record it. I moved around looking for the perfect scene to capture on paper. When my brush would touch the paper, it would paint the entire scene without me doing anything except moving the brush. It was like "magic painting." The paper transformed into the muscled torso of a man and I painted on that for a while, dropped the brush and moved my hand on his chest enjoying the sensations.

Oh, I remember a reoccuring and horrifying dream where large rocks slid along the ground moving faster and faster. there was ominous noises in the dream as well. That's all I remember about it. I don't know why it was so terrifying because I wasn't in it, the rocks weren't crushing me, but it was very threatening and I woke up screaming. The first time I had this dream, I was running a fever and thought that caused it. But the dream came back on several occasions and was always a terrifying experience. The same images were included within the dream each time it played out.

The text of worst nightmare reports from participants in the Demographic Survey 2010 and other sources. Exact question: Please describe the worst nightmare you can remember, from any period of your life, in as much detail as you can. Response is limited to 3000 characters. It was probably the one described on the previous page. Nightmares aren't a big part of my dreaming, but I remember some involving falling and choking. Once, a few years back, after my mother died, I woke up crying which was the first time I'd ever cried while dreaming. It was a mourning response, I'm sure, although it happened years after her death so it was a delayed grieving. I always hoped my dead parents would return in dreams -- something that has happened to many people I know -- but they never did. Maybe that's because I was with both of my parents when they died and there was virtually no "unfinished business."
